Some portrait quotes I found and liked!

"So many people dislike themselves so thoroughly that they never see any reproduction of themselves that suits. None of us is born with the right face. It’s a tough job being a portrait photographer." ~Imogen Cunningham    So much truth in this. I despise being photographed and it's VERY hard to photograph another!

"A good portrait is incredibly hard to create, there is too much temptation to pander to the individual rather than portray them as they really were." ~Philipe Halsman    It is difficult to make a portrait that portrays who the person truly is on the inside, not necessarily the outside.

"A portrait! What could be more simple and more complex, more obvious and more profound." ~Charles Baudelaire    Ha ha yes. Portraits are both simple and complex at the same exact time. The portrait may depict Plain Jane, but the meaning behind it could be profound.

"Photography is a calling that requires vigilance and alertness for that moment in time that only occurs once." ~Caroline Mueller   This quote isn't really about portraits, but I found it on the same website and I REALLY liked it:)

Portraits of Zoe C.

We have started the portrait assignment for this quarter. One portrait is supposed to be Plain Jane and the second is supposed to be wild. So far I have done the plain one. Zoe is another student in my class and she is my model. I think it would have been difficult to get my dorm friends into the studio at 8am in the morning so I'm glad we got to work with fellow photography students. I have enjoyed working with Zoe so far and it's been nice to get to know her better:)

First Day in the Studios

It was my first time working in the studios today. I was working on a still life project. It was a bit intimidating at first, but then I started to feel more comfortable. The effect that I worked on showing today is the black line around the objects I was photographing.

Thursday 8AM Photo Arts Class

Today was the first time I have ever been in a legit photography studio, other than when I came for an open house. They are sort of intimidating and there's so much stuff you have to think about, write down, bring, and buy just for one photo-shoot. AAAAAAAAAAH! Next week we do still lifes, so I'm going to make a trip to Walmart, Barnes & Noble, etc. this weekend to scrounge up some last minute things I learned today that I really need for the studios. One plus though, I did learn A LOT today in class!

Progress On Friday

I'm still working in my On Friday project. These are just a few photos I took last Friday when on break:
Some trails are clearly marked

Some don't look like paths at all

They lead you to who knows where

Sometimes the travels are steep and difficult

Last Friday In Victor Before Back To RIT

I took a walk on Friday because it was like 50-55 degrees (very strange for western NY in December) and I was working on my On Friday project, when I noticed how beautiful the sky looked.
