Still Life

In thinking about the still life project I have when I get back to school after break, I decided to figure out some stuff about making a still life. This website gives you four basic things to keep in mind when photographing a still life; I thought they were pretty useful hints!

The Many Faces Of Christmas

Oh yes, today is Christmas!

Wow, is that for me?

Yaaay, just what I wanted!

There's more, right?

Noooooo, is it really over!?

On Friday Project

Since it's Friday, I was working on my book project today. It's about paths and trails and how they can be compared to the journey that we take in life. It's kind of like Robert Frost's The Road Not Taken. In these photos I used complementary colors, red and green. I also focused on the theme, not looking back once you've made a decision or chosen a path. I used a slow shutter speed and a flash to distort my body.

Christmas Tree

I love decorating the Christmas tree. I love the fact that I can make the lights look cool just by using a slow shutter speed!

Quote

I like this quote, because for me one of the best parts of photography is being able to share your work with others. Letting people see your opinion and letting those ignorant in on what's happening in the world is very important. What's the point of photographing if no one will ever see them or hear what you have to say?

"There are many reasons for shooting pictures, not least the adrenaline pumping moment of knowing you've caught a marvelous instant, but it's all a little empty if all the results end up in a little yellow box in a cupboard." ~Patrick Ward

Boy Is It Cold In Rochester

No matter how many years you've lived in Rochester, I lived here all my life, you never quite get used to how amazingly cold it can get. I was finishing up photographing for my flash assignment at about 8pm and it was definitely single digits outside. BUUUUUURRRRRRRR!!!!!!!

Sunday Sunset

I was sitting in my lounge yesterday evening when I looked out the window and saw this gorgeous sunset. I decided to take a break from the homework and take some pics of this amazing scene. I have been surprised throughout the year at how many beautiful sunsets RIT has!

Saturday Road Trip To Erie, PA

Four of my friends and I decided to go to Erie to watch the Men's Hockey team play Mercyhurst. We won 4-2 and had more fans from RIT than they did even though Mercyhurst was at home! Ha ha, I love RIT Tigers:)

Cool Quote I Found

"Above all, I know that life for a photographer cannot be a matter of indifference." ~Robert Frank

*Robert Frank is a current influential photographer. Though he is Switzerland, most of work contains an American theme. He most popularly depicts the ironic nature of American life.

The Robins Are Still Here

It's almost half way through December and the robins still haven't migrated. They must been confused by the no snow November that we had and decided to stick around longer than usual. Took some pics of them while working on my flash assignment. I wanted to take advantage of our momentary sunlight!

Using A Portable Flash!

I'm having a lot of fun experimenting with a flash for my Assignment #3. My favorite type of flash so far is the drag shutter flash. I love trying out all the different effects that this kind of flash can do. This assignment has made me really happy that my parents are getting me a flash for Christmas. I can't wait to see what everybody else in my class has been doing with their flashes too:)

First Snow At College

Walking on the "Quarter Mile"
I think summer is definitely over

The first week of December, also meant the first snowfall. Not sure I was quite prepared for the cold yet. However I did get some quick pics to commemorate the start of the holiday season.

First Day Of Blog

I don't really know much about blogging, but I think it is a good way to get my photos out there for the world to see!
